THE public of Louth and Horncastle are to be given the opportunity to help choose a new Conservative parliamentary candidate for next year’s General Election.
The Conservative Association in the Lincolnshire constituency have opted for an ‘open primary’ method of selection which offers people in Louth and Horncastle the chance to vote on applicants.
It follows the decision of Father of the House and Louth and Horncastle MP, Sir Peter Tapsall, to not seek re-election next year. Sir Peter announced his decision in March.
The primary will take place on Monday July 28 at Franklin Hall in Spilsby and will involve candidates undergoing an interview, then a Q&A session from the floor before a vote from the audience.
Residents wanting to attend and vote have be on the electoral register in the Louth and Horncastle constituency and also register with the local Conservative Party beforehand.
More information on how to register for the primary will be made available next week.
Louth and Horncastle Conservative Association Chairman, David Andrews, said: “Sir Peter has been a fantastic representative for Louth and Horncastle and now we want local people to help us pick an equally able individual as our new Conservative candidate.
“It has been forty years since we have had to choose a new parliamentary candidate so this is a historic moment for us and we are hoping for as many people as possible to get involved.
“We are seeing real economic progress in Lincolnshire under David Cameron and we will be campaigning hard with our new candidate for a majority Conservative Government next year.”
