Today we are publishing our topic calendar for the next year.
I hope it will inspire the formation of yet more CPF Groups and fire the enthusiasm of those who have already joined our conversation.
We are keen for the CPF to be a forum of real debate led by our members. This is crucial if we are to make full use of our Voluntary Party’s wisdom and reach the fully-considered policies we will want to put before the electorate in 2015
We are conscious that, to foster real debate, we have to be willing to engage in constructive discussion about a wide range of topics, including highly controversial issues – some of which have been suggested by you over the last six months.
Based on your suggestions, as well as the proposals put forward by the CPF Sectoral Chairmen, the topics have been selected by the CPF’s policy steering group. They include areas as yet untackled by the CPF, such as local health and working families, as well as higher profile topics like our relationship with the EU.
Of course, with topics such as the EU – subject to the constant flow of international events as they are – there may have to be some changes to our published timetable if, for example, an international summit means that events are moving too fast to capture in a Discussion Brief. We will try to keep any changes to a minimum and hope that you will bear with us. There will definitely be a paper each month.
Finally, some of these topics will of course be debated during our events at Conference. The programme has grown dramatically this year, with the team bringing you seven very different opportunities to get involved – from the annual lecture, to set piece debates and two-way conversations with Ministers.
